You can subscribe or unsubscribe to any of the various mailing lists
run by this server simply by sending email to <listserv@myhost.my.domain>.
These are the commands understood by the listserv program. See below for a
descrition about templates.
HELP
lists this file. This is also sent whenever a message to
listserv is received from which no valid command could be
parsed.
QUIT
STOP
is the last command in a message. The rest of the message will
be ignored.
USERS LIST/A
WHO LIST/A
lists the subscribers of the specified group.
INDEX
lists all the groups available for subscription.
WHICH
list all groups you are subscriped to
ADD LIST/A,NAME/K,ADDR/K
SUBSCRIBE LIST/A,NAME/K,ADDR/K
DELETE LIST/A,NAME/K,ADDR/K
UNSUBSCRIBE LIST/A,NAME/K,ADDR/K
adds or deletes the given address to or from the list
specified. Mail is sent to the address given to confirm
the add or delete operation. If you omit the address
or name the command will assume the mailbox that is in the
From: line of the message. Note that SUBSCRIBE is a
synonym for ADD; UNSUBSCRIBE for DELETE.
INFO LIST/A
DESC LIST/A
DESCRITION LIST/A
sends a (short) description for the appropriate mailing list.
A command must be the first word on each line in the message. Lines which
do not start with a command word are ignored. If no commands were found in
the entire message, this help file will be returned to the user. A single
message may contain multiple commands; a separate response will be sent for
each.
Please note that it IS possible to add or delete someone else's
subscription to a mailing list. This facility is provided so that
subscribers may alter their own subscriptions from a new or different
computer account. There is therefore some potential for abuse; we have
chosen to limit this by mailing a confirmation notification of any addition
or deletion to the address added or deleted including a copy of the message
which requested the operation. At least you can find out who's doing it to
you.
Examples:
ADD niftylist
DELETE junkylist NAME "Joe User" ADDR "joe@uunet.uu.net"
INFO eggbeaters
About templates:
The commands arguments are parsed using standard Amiga commandline
parsing. For those not common with this, here's a short
description:
Each argument template has an speaking name and (optional)
switches. The meaning of the switches are:
/A this argument must be given
/K pass the arguments name in front of the argument itself (see
example DELETE above)
Arguments containing spaces must be enclosed in double-quotes.
Note that you mail submissions to a mailing list by addressing mail to the
list's name at this site (e.g., niftylist@myhost.my.domain).
If you have any questions or need assistance, you can send email to
<postmaster@myhost.my.domain> for a human answer.
